And when you enroll at HCIS, you don’t just gain access to great academics, you also get free public transportation. That’s right: at HCIS, the bus is on us!
A Transit Pass for Every Student
Every student at HCIS receives a Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) transit pass, granting them full access to the DTA’s entire route network. You can use it to get to and from school every day, travel to internships, jobs and extracurricular activities. Developing real-world time management and navigation skills are an important part of growing into a capable young adult - and HCIS is here to support you!
Why It Works
Choosing public transportation over a traditional school bus system saves families and our school money. We don’t need to operate and maintain a bus fleet, which means more resources go directly into academics, student support, and enrichment programs.
It’s also a greener choice. Our partnership with the DTA aligns with HCIS’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Public transportation helps reduce carbon emissions and contributes to cleaner air in our Duluth community - and that’s something we’re proud to support.
Getting Started Is Easy!
Using the DTA is simple. Just check the schedule and route map, hop on, and go. DTA drivers are friendly and helpful, and during the school year, HCIS staff are stationed at the Duluth Transit Center (just one block from school) at the beginning and end of the day to assist students.
For our 7th and 8th graders, we offer even more support: they follow a designated route daily, and staff check in with them each day. Over the summer, we also offer three bus training sessions to help new students feel confident and prepared when the school year starts.
