A major reason HCIS was chosen for this year’s Innovation Award? Our powerful Service Learning Symposiums. Every student completes at least two before graduating, diving into real-world projects that benefit the broader community. In just the 2023–24 school year alone, students logged over 2,125 hours of service. From trail restoration with the Superior Hiking Trail Association to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, preparing meals for Loaves and Fishes, and supporting local schools and nursing homes - our students aren’t just learning; they’re making a difference.
🌟 Hands-On Learning That Goes Deep
At HCIS, we believe real learning happens when students are actively engaged. That’s why our signature Symposium model of 5–6 day, single-subject courses offered three times a year is such a big part of our approach. These immersive sessions range from sailing to winter survival to folk dance, giving students a chance to explore new passions, connect with community partners, and build practical skills in unexpected places.
