Preparing to fill out a FAFSA

For the 2020-21 school year, student and parent(s) will need financial information from 2018.

Prepare. Prior to attending a FAFSA completion night:
1. Both student and a parent need to create an FSA ID and password online at https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm. Save these as they are used for FAFSA every year;
2. Gather the following documents and information for BOTH student and parent(s):
a. SSN and date of birth
b. 2018 W-2 forms and other records of money earned
c. 2018 Federal Income Tax Returns (1040, 1040A or 1040 EZ)
d. 2018 untaxed income amounts (Child support paid/received, Veterans non-educational benefits, etc…)
e. If you own a business with more than 100 employees, what is the current net value
f. Current value of investment real estate, stocks, and bonds
g. As of the day you are completing the FAFSA, total of cash, savings, and checking

Bring. On FAFSA night, bring the following information and documents for BOTH student and parent(s):
1. FSA IDs and passwords that student and parent created
